Many people have installed poptops in Vangons that did not come with
them. I've done a couple myself. It is not hard to do unless you want to
have the complete bed up there.
The ceiling in a passenger model is arch shaped, as is the outer metal
of the roof. The Westy ceiling is flat and lowered to allow for the bed
and pads to stay in place when the top is down.
The very back seat headroom is greater on the passenger models. The
Westy sacrifices this to make room for the upper bed. The upper bed is
not part of the poptop but is a seperate assembly. The top can be
installed without the upper bed and a good size roof hole can be made
without cutting anthing but the roof sheet metal. To install the
complete bed you must cut more away including the rear main roof support
arch. The function of this important support structure must be
duplicated somehow.
