On my Bug I replaced the exhaust gaskets with copper 'drop in' ones aircooled.net sells. No need to remove the nuts or studs, just loosen them enough to rip the old gasket out and drop the new in. I don't know if they fit the 2.1, but the concept should be the same if you modify stock gaskets. Mark I 85 GL
