Check the hose crimp connections near the compressor, where the hose goes to metal. When I put in my new engine, I heard a freon leak when I wired the compressor up out of the way. Yes, I could actually hear it leaking. Do to the engine movement, this would be a logical weak point. Now I know why my compressor is shot--the '85s don't have a lo pressure switch. PO said, "It works. It's probably just low on freon." Jay

Does any one have enough experience tracking down Vanagon AC leaks to lend some info on the more common places for these to occur. I need to track mine down. Vacuum test showed slow leak.
