I apologize if you took my statement of multiple vehicles to mean you specifically. Having owned and driven VW Vans and Vanagons for seven years this time around I see "for sale cheap" signs on many Vanagons of various year models. In the seven year period I have also resurrected about five Westies, wrecked out four Vanagons in the 80-83 Air-cooled variety. I must clarify the statement to include all Vans, Vanagons whether they be Diesel, Air Cooled or Water cooled. Apparently your are a collector of sorts but wouldn't you think it strange if your neighbor had four or more 19?? Chevrolets, Mercedes or whatever of basically the same model that held no potential of ever becoming a classic. I had a 1978 Olds 98 that gave me trouble free service for almost 300,000 miles, I didn't go out collecting them, building a four or five car backlog. If you're an individual performing as a dealer then so be it but with the several hundred note lots in Dallas I've never found a "We Finance" dealer that would put any type of VW van out on a note. The specify cash only, no warranties. I wouldn't question whether one of your Vanagons might make it trouble free from East to West coast trip but; would you ever leave home without tools and spare parts? It doesn't matter if it's a Splittie, Bay, Vanagon or a Subaru conversion almost everybody expects trouble and unfortunately they have it on their trips. Admittedly some of their experiences are comical and they often meet very nice folks from the AIRS group but I consider it a terrible embarrassment to have a vehicle break down anywhere and it has never qualified as romantic.
