Vanagons 80-91 come in the L, GL and after 84 the Wolfsburg editions.
The 80-83 L series has basic vinyl door panels, seats etc.
The 80-84 GL series have upgraded fabric in various configurations on
door panel etc. The first padded dashes appeared in the 85 and up models.
The Vanagon body style was produced from 1980 - 83 2000cc air (Air
Cooled) through 83.5 - 1991 (1.9 then 2.1 Water Cooled)
The Wolfsburg Editions have the highest quality fabrics in the interiors
and often have fiberglass bumpers, upgraded headlight packages.
In addition there are various seating arrangements that can include two
rear facing passenger armchair seats. Drop down game tables. Portable 12v
refrigerators.
You just got to shop around until you find one that you can't live
without.
No matter what year you buy, don't count on the Air Conditioning system
to work for long.
Waser boxer engines are about $3500.00 on a pallet.
Air Cooled engines are about $1800.00 on a pallet.
Get ready for a big blast in response:
I say "never buy a Water Cooled, stick to Air Cooled",
the other side is going to say "Water cooled get a bad rap but are
actually great."
