I got my first Vanagon for the simple reason is it is so much more useful than any current model Minivan. It's shorter (on the outside), has a smaller turning radius. It's roomier (on the inside). I use it for hauling pinball machines, for which it is perfect. Since it is a Syncro, I can drive it up over curbs without concern (useful when you want to drive around to the back of someone's house to pickup/deliver a pinball machine.)

I got my Westy (also a Syncro) for similar reasons. There just isn't anything out there in the current market which is 1) a manual, 2) 4wd, 3) a camper.
