Mr. Stan is very close to the truth on this subject. Hope much yor bank is full of money, and yor credit cards allow big spending. Or the best idea is to buy 6 more of the Vanagons for breakdowns in the future. This wouldbe much ceaper than looking for parts at a dealer, or other means of supply Now you have , what you say, a junk yard? My life is now full with 4 of these machines, and I rather be drinking schnopps, with some frauline, other than being wed to any machine full time.

Good evening,

Fred

I'm envisioning a wire cage in your two car garage with a sign on the shelf of the split door that says parts department. I'm visualizing the wire basket that is labeled *waiting for parts*. What ever possess a person to collect a fleet of *known to be problematic* vehicles ? I strugle by with a Ford Victoria, an Oldsmobile 98 and a poor single Westy. I seldom mention my other vehicles because they always run good and need no discussion. I'm counting six vehicles at your home (hope you got a big barn). But I still remember the splitty I had. During the decade of the 70s I drove a 1955 type II all over California. It was not a standard 21 window microbus but it had factory corner glass windows with the small rear lid window glass. It also featured a unique, factory stock single brake light just above the license plate area. Being much younger than I am now, I then converted the '55 to 12V, installed a "T" crankcase type III dual-port carburetor engine connected to a 1967 tunnel type I gear box with the ring gear flipped 180*. We overhauled and reinstalled the early rear wheel gear reduction boxes giving the '55 extraordinary climbing ability coupled with the torque of the type III engine. For nearly 10 years this wonderful splitty took us camping and inner-tubing with countless friends and dogs throughout the mountains of California. We had some tense moments but the type III powered '55 splitty always brought us home. While I appreciate the A/C, auto trans and power everything of the Vanagon, I still miss the sound and simplicity of the '55 splitty!!!!!!
