So Terry, What DON'T you like about your vanagon? There is a saying, "You might be courting tradgedy but your not married to it". I like the way the van drives and if your not in a hurry the horsepower to weight issue is not a problem. It is true I am an old fart and must look at things differently than other younger with things to do. I am certain to be doing at least 45mph up that ashland grade on my way to bellevue on highway 5. Honk your horn and wave if you see me. I have the time to wave back. And remeber Terry, your never married to tradgedy. regards gary To: Vanagon@yahoogroups.com

Ths is a touchy subject and I will put my 5 cents in on this one.

Yep--- the Vanagons are a fun to drive vehicle, and the Westy's are no doubt a conveinent way to go, if your into cheap camping.

However let face it---they just are an antiquated, underpowered, undependable, labor intense vehicle to own and drive.

They are no more than a cult thing and that's just about it.

Be cool and own an unusual vehicle, that's all this is all about.

There is no way in hell these 4x8 sheet of underpowered vehicles were intended to be in existence as long as they have--and some wild men are trying to keep this idea alive--me included.

Ask ole Mike Miller about long, trouble free, unevenful trips ----

His phone bill looking for help cost him more than the gasoline he used to go coast to coast---

Oh yea--this is one vehicle to be doing the cross country Cha-Cha in---

His first misteake was to leave home without a trailer full of tools, and a rolling warehouse of parts to keep himself moving.

I recall trying to simply get his front end aligned, and every one of the places I called or went to blew him off--

Go to any VW dealer, and try and get one of these toys worked on--- If they were so wonderful why do the folks at any VW service center laugh at you, as they kindly ask you to remove you toilet from their facility?

What is wrong with this picture?

Yep--this is one totally dependable, trouble free vehicle alright----

Maybe in some 3rd world country--maybe.

I'd like to find the guy that owed me money, and instead gave me the first vanagon and choke him for about 10 minutes, to show my appreciation---:>)
