These statements are inconsistent -- if it stays open you should get a difference any time you pinch the hose.

Device may not close completely electrically (also, it will be expecting around 13.5 volts) -- it depends partially on head from the head to close it. Also make sure airflow is in correct direction, it only seals one way.

Note -- photos in Bosch FI book show one straight from the freezer, covered in frost, with disk about half-plus open. Then they show one "warm" with it almost closed.
