there *are* no homes in the $250,000 range in *my* area (as you so elegantly allude to, tim). there are hardly *condos* that cheap. average homeprice right now (as we search for our home) for a 900 sf., 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom house on less than 8,000 sf lot is

something on the order of $450,000-$550,000, depending upon neighborhood and amenities.

once you've scraped yourselves off the floor, you understand why i don't give a rat's tail-end for what the neighbors think about my van being worked on, in the street or the driveway. my home purchase is doing *nothing* but *increase* their appraisals.
