Hi everyone,

Just a quick note to say I know this guy who last night successfully downloaded the zipped VW parts CD disk image from the web and installed it on his Mac. I know there had been some questions in the past from list Mac users asking if EKTA can be run on Macs, and yes, it can.

This guy I know is running it via Windows2000 running on VirtualPC 5 on a Mac Titanium G4 PowerBook running Mac OS X. He downloaded an unzipped the file in the Mac environment, then copied the unzipped file set to the Windows side and ran the .exe installer. As per the instructions, two files needed to be moved in order to work around the hardlock.

Because the TiBook's LCD screen has a resolution of only 1152 x 768, he dowloaded and installed a copy of JS software's Virtual Desktop, which tiles the screen to essentially unlimited size, but sadly does not allow mouse-driven scrolling off the displayed screen area: jumps to the next tile are abrupt and screen areas that are split over two tiles cannot be displayed simultaneously. Reminds me of the old saying that a battle is an event that takes place at the junction of four map sheets...

If anyone is aware of a cheap shareware or commercial program that does scrolling as opposed to tiling let me know and I'll pass it on.

Upshot of all this is EKTA 5.3 *can* be run on a Mac, and it's pretty straight-forward. Runs well, and is reasonably fast, too.
