Thought I'd repost this personal reply from Andrew re: my handling comments earler re: Vanagon's handling is more than adequate (certainly European ones)

Right on. By the sound of the list, most US owners have Westies, which fail the Moose Test dismally due to their high C-of-G and laterally-unbalanced distribution. A full-dress camper is just an accident waiting to happen, which is in part why I stripped out the interior of my 75 Bay when I bought it. The cabinets went to the dump, where they belonged.

Also I have read in more than one source that modified (repowered) T3s are successfully hunting BMWs etc on twisty German backroads. Can't do that in an ill-handling vehicle.
