That "flocking that you find so abhorrant on the roof of your westie is actually there to prevent condensation. A hard surface would have you being rained on. Cleaning that mold is pretty doable with a bleach solution. I have had run ins with roof mold before (usually after a long winter storage outside) and a couple teaspoons of bleach in a spray bottle cleared things up nicely. And treated areas have stayed clean. If you really want to go at it, (I have read other listers do this) spray on a strong bleach solution to soak then use a hose and a soft brush. Try this first, you might be suprised at the result. You will get everything clean and then leave the sun to dry thoroughly. Since you have everything dissasembled, use the money saved from refinishing the roof and buy new canvas. You earned some side windows!
