The extension is quite simple to have made. I took a swingarm in the proper vintage and had a competent welder cut and reweld an additional section in the center. The tricky part is relocating the tripping system on the track under the side cover. I ended up stopping at that point because my new wheel set-up did not require the modification even at 8" wide.

Detlev Hanschke in Livermore has done this on his Vanagon. You may want to check with him. I have a link for his shop on webpage under the name Vanagon Projekt.
