Hi all... I've heard really excellent things about these new Espar (Eberspaecher) heaters. They really are over $2,000 new, so at $750 currently, the one on Ebay would be quite a deal. And even for non-diesel people - you could certainly add a small diesel tank just for the heater. One fellow I corresponded with a few years ago simply used a 1 quart bottle of some sort with a pickup hose stuck through the top, removable, secured under the rear seat.

But... if you are going to get one of these fancy heaters, the D5LC borders on overkill for the Vanagon... Not that too much heat is a bad thing, but even on low the D5LC puts out 4,400 BTU and draws a whopping 3.3 amps and uses 0.4 gal/hour. I think that would put quite a drain on your battery! Espar's smallest diesel air heater, the 7,500 BTU "Airtronic2" would probably be more appropriate, on low providing 2,900 BTU and drawing only 0.67 amps and using 0.02 gal/hour.

Still, finding one of these for sale is a pretty rare occurrence - just be sure to do your research before you commit!
