Subject: Twisted PS belt?
Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII

Hi gang,

We just got back from our first real outing this year in our '88 Westy. Had a wonderful trip to a secluded spot near Bamfield, and discovered two things: 1) our Westy handles rough roads far better than our friend's '99 4Runner with monster 16" tires - he could barely keep up with us as his solid rear axle hopped wildly over the washboards! 2) Perhaps more interesting was the discovery upon our return (the van ran perfectly!) that the power steering belt was *twisted*, and the running with the back of the belt riding on the rear edge of the large pulley, while seated normally on the pump pulley. Not believing what I saw, I started the engine, expecting the belt to come off - it didn't. I loosened the pump and corrected it, but what a very odd problem! I guess something must have jammed in the pulley to cause this - has anyone seen this before?
