I had arm twisted my wife into going but she flattly refused after we had spent a week with her relatives. I needed to spend time in Bellevue with my relative solo. It was a mixed blessing. Made stops and menu easier but ever since I have been getting those ARP notices in the mail my multitasking abilities have gone down hill. missing a backup driver and a navigator was a serious loss. I was doing the big drive on my own. Up the I-5 to Seattle from the bay area. The most beautiful mountains in the world, the cascades. Young mountains that are the expression of the west. Never quite happy being just a mountain. When I left it was seriously cold in the foggy hills of belmont. Long pants with sweatshirt. By the time I made the 505 the sweatshirt hit the back of the van. In corning the long pants came off and on went the shorts. When I hit the Lasson grade near Redding I would have been in my underware if I did not need to refuel. By then the highspeed fan was running continously as the grade from the valley climbs into the cascade mountains. But no view of Lasson, no view of Shasta, just a smokey madmax vista as if the earth itself had become angry. Even the sun was missing. A smoke plume from Redding to Ashland of fires from the caves. The continous drone of the highspeed fan would remind me that I had a destination and it was north. By the time I had made Ashland the smoke began breaking up and I could see blue sky again. Just south of Eugene I spotted a KOA in crestwood or crestview, multitasking skills were seriusly limited. Took the discount into a quarter free shower. No fire ring so steamed three left over pieces of pizza and beer to match and hit the sack. Pleasant dreams, great to be in Eugene. gary
