Subject: Oil breather
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"
Hi all,
Thanks for all the wonderful help regarding my overheating/thermoswitch questions - Ben, I'll definitely get the older thermostat and let you know how it goes. My new question is in regards to the oil breather. I looked through the archives but did not find specific info. on my question. So here it is: the hose from the oil breather to the intake air hose on my '87 Westy was collapsed and cracked - whoever replaced it last (just bought this van last fall) used a fuel hose instead of an oil resistant hose. So that probably explains my oil leak (hopefully). I replaced it now with heater hose (the local mechanic told me its what he uses and gave me some). However, there is a lot of oily grit (possibly from the massive deterioration of the previous hose) in the hole going into the oil breather as well as the intake air hose. Should I be worried about this and does anyone know if this could also be a factor in my overheating problems? Has anyone replaced their oil breather? Thanks in advance.
- Marla
