Mice (and other rodents) can do an incredible amount of damage to your wiring. Rodents, of all sizes, have continuously growing incisors, and hence, need to chew on things constantly to keep the incisors worn to the right length. Unfortunately, wires are just the right size for the smaller rodents to fit in their mouths. Larger rodents, such as ground hogs can do significant damage to the larger wires. My sister had the coax cable to her oxygen sensor (in a toyota) cut through by a ground hog (we saw it doing it, so we know the villan, who unfortunately is still around...though carrying several pieces of lead inside it.) I personally have a VW fox wagon rusting away at the end of my driveway due to wires being chewed through....EVERY wire in the engine compartment has been chewed through (spark plug wires, headlights, even the battery cables show signs of chewing!) |
