The linkage at the tranny is very different between the Vanagon 091 and 091/1 trannys. You can not easily interchange these trannys because of this. There is a plastic ball hanging down from the tranny, on the selector lever. The shift linkage of the later 091/1 ends at this ball/socket joint and a metal plate with 2 bolts attaches the linkage to the tranny just ahead of this socket. The early 091 tranny linkage extends several inches past the selector lever, sticks through a special ear sticking out of the tranny case, and bolts to this ear with a single large nut.
