<html><div style='background-color:'><DIV> <P>So you gained 5-10psi simply by switching to synthetic? (the other modifications were done prior to the before-and-after?). At 3500 rpms I'm going 60mph... and I'm an automatic.... You hit 70mph at 3500 rpms? <BR><BR></P></DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV>&gt;From: Stan Wilder <WILDEN1@JUNO.COM> <DIV></DIV>&gt;Reply-To: Stan Wilder <WILDEN1@JUNO.COM> <DIV></DIV>&gt;To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM <DIV></DIV>&gt;Subject: Re: Syntheic Oil <DIV></DIV>&gt;Date: Thu, 8 Aug 2002 11:35:08 -0500 <DIV></DIV>&gt; <DIV></DIV>&gt;I'd like to give you a definitive Yes, but I'm running an RX7 oil cooler, <DIV></DIV>&gt;a Porsche Windage Tray, notched rods, I'm monitoring my oil temp with an <DIV></DIV>&gt;Audi 5000 sending unit in the oil bypass part. <DIV></DIV>&gt;In my case I've noticed that at 70/75 mph in the 3300/3500 rpm, my oil <DIV></DIV>&gt;pressure remains up about 65+ psi. Prior to this the pressure was in the <DIV></DIV>&gt;55/60 range at these speeds and Rpms. <DIV></DIV>&gt;The temperature appears to remain the same since there is a ten minute <DIV></DIV>&gt;delay in having a true reading. <DIV></DIV>&gt;I get the same temperatures at 85 degrees ambient temperature as I do at <DIV></DIV>&gt;100 degrees so I can't say what results you'll get but its just a $20.00 <DIV></DIV>&gt;experiment with a new filter so I'd say go for it if you've got over <DIV></DIV>&gt;10,000 miles on your engine. If you've got an old engine I'd run marvel <DIV></DIV>&gt;mystery oil in it for a full 3000 mile oil change cycle and run some <DIV></DIV>&gt;engine flush through the engine before you make the switch. Apears that <DIV></DIV>&gt;the synthetic breaks the crud loose and can stop up your oil delivery if <DIV></DIV>&gt;the engine is in mid life. <DIV></DIV>&gt; <DIV></DIV>&gt;Stan <DIV></DIV>&gt; <DIV></DIV>&gt; <DIV></DIV>&gt;On Thu, 8 Aug 2002 12:02:35 -0400 "Russell, William" <DIV></DIV>&gt;<WILLIAM.RUSSELL@UW-INC.COM> writes: <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; Cooler too right? I made the switch at about 10,000 miles and the engine <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; just <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; seems to run better (consider that I feel the same way after I wash <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; the <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; van). <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; Stan Wilder <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; 83 Air Cooled Westfalia <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; On Thu, 8 Aug 2002 10:32:34 -0400 "Russell, William" <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; <WILLIAM.RUSSELL@UW-INC.COM>writes: <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; A quick question: I'm thinking of switching from 'real' to <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; 'synthetic' <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; oil in my 1980 air-cooled. It has about 12000-15000 kms on the <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; engine <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; since it was re-built. It has been running 'real' oil since the <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; rebuild. Is it really just an issue of <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; cost? <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; Is <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; synthetic just better and that's all there is to it? <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; \/\/i!!y <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; 1980 Westfalia "Jazzy" <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; ________________________________________________________________ <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less! <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; Join Juno today!
