       I have done this by using a flat piece of plastic, preferably black, 
or you can spray bomb paint it.  Use small strip of Velcro to keep closed.  
Instead if one long hinge pin use two short ones on each end.  Use plastic 
thick enough that you can drill a small hole in for the hinge pins.
