Subject: Still having starting problems.

Still having hot start trouble with my 81 aircooled vanagon. I think it is some sort of vapor lock situation but I am still not sure. It only does it when it is hot, after having been driven and shut off for 5 minutes or so, then it cranks and cranks but doesnt fire. Tried opening the gas cap but it does not help. I loosened the hose clamp on the line from the fuel pump to the engine and fuel shoots out under pretty good pressure. I let that line drain, reconnect it and it starts right up. I also tired an experiment where I disconnect the power to the fuel pump, crank it over, then reconnect the power to the fuel pump and it starts right up. So does it sound like vapor lock or something else? could it possibley be a problem with the pressure regulator? I am curios about that because I only get about 14 mpg with it. Any ideas? Thanks Ed Maikranz Abilene, TX 81 Westy 71 Superbeetle
