Me too. Over 100K on my '91 Westy when I switched to syn (been waiting weeks to say that). I've changed it once since and have not added any oil between change. Have taken several trips in the 700 to 1500 miles and it does not use oil...period. I second the lifter comment as well. Also switched to syn in the auto-tranny. Bob Stevens '91 Westy

<< What about switching to Synth on a van with 108,000 miles? I ask because over on the saabnet you are always reading about old saabs that start leaking oil real bad after the switch to synth was made. I dunno why that would happen - just seems to be a common thread, but thats is why I'd be hesitant to do this and hence my question. >>

No leaks in our case. I switched to Mobil One 15W50 on our 2.1 at some mileage above 100,000 (sorry I didn't document what mileage exactly) and never regretted it. Lifter noise became a thing of the past, even after a one time four month layoff, and I extended my oil change intervals to 8,000 miles. No more worrying about oil changes on the road for us.

I'm currently breaking in a Tiico engine using Dino oil and plan to switch to synth at around the 3,000 mile mark.
