I'm a fairly new Westy owner and haven't worked on this part of my van yet, except for changing the oil and putting on a new oil filter. Can anyone tell me if I can just tighten the plug or if I should play it safe and replace the oil pressure valve, spring, seal and plug all at once? I don't want to do any engine damage by overtightening the plug by mistake.

More than likely you can either just try to tighten it up, or take it out and put a new (copper??) gasket behind it - can't remember if you need to drain the oil before taking this out.

One of the pushrods also has a dent in it where someone shoved a socket in between them to try and loosen the oil drain plug before I got the van. Could this dent cause engine problems? I'm not sure how sensitive the pushrods are... Thanks in advance for any and all help. >

The plate protects the pushrods, it's a good idea to have it, they are available, probably at www.busdepot.com, and I wouldn't worry too much about small dents, only big ones. The pushrod is about 1/4 or 3/8 inch in dia. so look at the dent and figure if it could really interfere. Most dents won't.
