I think we are talking wbx here. I don't have an oil cooler, either ('85 1.9l). I have seen this pressure (80 to 85 psi) on both my tired engine and now with the new engine was installed. My gauge is installed at the stock sender location, down between cyls. 3 and 4. Jay

Jay: I'd like to hear the reasoning behind this thought. I say true; the gauge will be at 80+ and that is indeed the pressure at the sender and very close to what the pump is putting out. At 80 psi the oil filter and oil cooler is bypassed and oil is being sent only to the bearings and back through the bypass valve to the sump. The bypass should be fully open at 47 psi but the oil return gallery and bearings still maintain high readings until the engine is fully warmed because of their physical capacity in diameter. That is one of the purposes of the pressure relief valve in a Type IV engine, save the cooler and the oil filter from exploding. If you have another engine, things might be just as you say.
