Hello all,

Sorry for cross-post, but my van is dead in the water.

Hopefully someone recognises these symptoms:

Van died on the road, no warning, no hesitation or rough running, just quit. Cranks fine, appears to have no spark. Put on a new cap and rotor, no help. When key is turned to "on", but not cranking, fuel pump runs for a second, then I can hear sparks jumping inside the distributor cap, sputtering sound, for about 2-3 seconds. It sounds like the coil is firing at random, without the engine turning over. After that, no sound, and no spark at the plugs.

Bad coil, bad Hall sender, ECU getting senile?

Any suggestions welcome, thanks very much!

Cheers,

Jerry McCavitt '86 SYncro GL 15"
