Here I am again consulting the unlimited knowledge of the Vanagon list.Have an 84 Westy 1.9 water cooled , 4 spd. std. While on another 800 mile round trip journey thru the prairies of Saskatchewan with good weather and no real wind to battle I found at certain times the van would be surging and almost have trouble keeping 70 mph speed.During these times I could almost watch my fuel gauge drop.Averaged 10 miles per gallon for the most of the trip. The best way I can describe the way it ran would be as if we were in a boat pulling a waterskier and the skier was cutting back and forth across the wake.We could actually feel this while driving at 70 mph. It would idle fine but the problem would get more noticable as you got up to highway speed. I recall seeing posts about a capacitor that some listees had to solder into an electrical board perhaps for the air flow meter( although am not sure ) anyhow maybe this is my problem ??? Any ideas or anybody experience this comments will be greatly appreciated..
