Subject: A/C Rebuild or Replace question
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Folks,

My 85 Westy is the shop (Competition Engineering in Tempe, Az) for misc. electrical work today.

Looks like the A/C compressor needs replacing.

Debating whether to let these guys do it (the seem very competent) or take it to a A/C specialty shop.

1. Can anyone recommend an A/C shop in the Phoenix area that's familiar with our Vanagon systems?

2. Got a quote of approx. $1500 from Competition Eng. for a new compressor and labor. Does that seem reasonable?

3. How about rebuild vs replace?

Hope to find a Syncro sometime soon and would then sell the 85 Westy.

But need to survive the rest of the AZ summer and a trip to CA and back.

Also ... don't want to turn over a mess to the new owner.

Input would really be appreciated.

Larry Chase 85 Westy "RoadHaus" Phx, AZ
