I don't have a ton of knowledge on this, but on the diesel lists I'm on ATF has fallen into disfavor of late as any sort of fuel/combustion additive/detergent. Apparently the refiner/producers now add "friction enhancers" to the mix that somehow aid the torque converter into beig more efficient, and these friction enhancers are not friendly to the injection/combustion process.
