M10 X 38 X 1.5 pitch. That insert is also designed to move slightly, it can be replaced. Do not through bolt as this can push the insert in to far placing undue stress on the compressor mounting ear and cracking the casting. Grinding the outside of the bolt head will make it easier to pass the pulley when installing. Dennis
-----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of John Rodgers Sent: Sunday, August 18, 2002 11:59 AM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: AC Mount Cap Screw Thread Size Anyone know the thread size for the rear (the one towards the rear of the vehicle) cap screw that holds the A/C to the mount on the engine on a 2.1L? The last shop that worked on my A/C buggered the threads by cross threading the screw. This looks like a steel threaded insert pressed into an aluminum bracket. I would like to retap the threads and put in a new screw. I know, I know, I can just put in a through bolt with a nut on it, but I would rather make it as original.
