Hi Bruce,
Wow - thanks - guess I need to do a little more research - didn't realize there were two separate parts. Thanks for the advice - I'm always happy to avoid unnecessary trouble and expense!
Peace,
Marla

Marla,
I can't offer a lot of advice on the actual replacement process, but I can help in one other important area. From your description it sounds like you have a problem not with the push rod but with the push rod TUBE. There is a big difference between the two parts and the job they perform in your engine. I don't mean to sound picky, I just don't want you to buy the wrong parts. If you go to many vendors and request a push rod they will sell you just that, a push rod. You need the tube that houses and protects the push rod.
I hope that this helps you avoid a least a little bit of trouble.
Good Luck!
Bruce

I also discovered, however, that I have a leak coming the end of one of my pushrods. Its the same one that is dented where someone evidently tried to ram a socket in to undo the drain plug. I think the dent managed to pull out or shorten the pushrod enough to cause a small leak. Or possibly it just unseated the pushrod...? I have no experience with pushrods and I am wondering if I have to drain the oil before I take the dented one out? Same with the oil pressure relief valve. Also, any recommendations for a novice on the type of pushrod to purchase? I found the spring ones and just plain ones, but not sure which is best. Thanks in advance for your help.
