Steve; There are a couple of possibilities here. I just replaced the heads on "Elvis" (85 GL) and am going through a similar problem. In my case I suspect the problem is the straight water I am running in it. The engine runs so close to the boiling point that it is (boiling). I rigged up a setup to test for exaust gases and it proved negative. You can buy these kits at the better FLAPs. I recommend you try it. This would reduce your trouble shooting to either overheating or combustion gas proiblems. The reason for the staright water is to flush the system and test for combustion gases, which I did have with the old heads.
