Hello Everyone, Well I knew it would happen sooner or later. Just bought a new van and starting to notice some knocking noise from the CV's. The van has a 130,000+ miles on it and when I checked the service records from the PO, there was no mention of any service done to any of the CV joints. This could be expensive! I have been looking into how hard it is to service CV joints and it doesn't seem too bad. Just messy! Tom Carrington has a great page reagarding this at http://volksweb.relitech.com/cvjoints.htm. My question is with this high a mileage, no service ever been done, noise, general hassle... Would it just be better for me to replace them all now. I am thinking of buying a rebuilt CV/Axle assembly for all four half axles. At least for the front axles the price of the rebuilt assembly with both CV's and the axles... Is the same as just the front outer CV alone! Plus installing them should be a whole lot easier. Also, does anyone have a prefered source for CV/Axle assemblies. Right now I am looking at VolksCafe. Seems to be a reasonable price. Thanks so much for any input. Michael Blackburn |
