Responding to my own post here....
I took your advice and picked up 4 of the Rockford CV part number 339-4.
Their website lists kit# 814-21 which I think includes other bits but when I
took a new Meisterstatz (sp) replacement with me, we measured up to boot #
339-4 which is a hair longer in overall rubber length but man is it GOOD
quality compared to a new Meisterstaz replacement.
Observation/comparisons below: Rockford=R Meisterstaz=X
rubber quality, R is stiffer appears thicker, X is flimsy and more pliable.
rubber lip on shaft end, R is nice and thick, X very slight thin lip
present.
flange and rubber mating, R has the rubber overlapping and stiffly banded to
the metal flange which has a lip to band rubber against, X has the rubber
tucked into the metal flange then metal is rolled back up to pinch the
rubber in place.
My problem was 1.5 yr replacement boots ripped out on the metal flange.
Still have 2 of 4 Meisterstatz and the Rockford boots I found appear to be a
much better boot to when placed next to each other. I installed these last
night and will report back any failure.
Overall, I highly recommend the Rockford CV boot # 339-4 @ $12.00 each
available through Rockford distributors located on their website
www.rockfordcv.com. I found mine at the local rebuilder who has used them
for years and wouldn't consider another brand. When he looked at the
Meisterstatz I brought in, he mentioned he sees a lot of those type of
boots. I guess the biggest difference and concern for me is how the rubber
mates to the flange and the Rockford boots look very sturdy. listvendors?
Thanks for the info Harmon.
