Subject: Vanagon Water Cooling Question
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Hello my list friends. If anyone is familiar with Boston on the list, well, I overheated in the Sumner Tunnel this morning! Not a pretty site. So I have a water system question for y'all.....maybe someone can give me some direction. My vanagon tends to come very close to overheating when I'm in traffic. It has happened to me a couple of times, but usually, I can avoid traffic. Plus, I haven't had it long, so I have not been able to address it....until now!

Today in the tunnel, Chuba overheated and I had steam and water pouring out from up front. Not the radiator, but rather, where one of the long metal tubes that carries the water meets one of the rubber hoses that connect to the radiator. I don't THINK it is the return line, I think it is the line that feeds the radiator, but i'm not totally positive. Either way, it's one of em. Well, the metal tube is so rusty that I guess, from what I was able to see, the tube kind of "split" where it was weak and everything spewed everywhere. This metal tube looks like it runs all the way back....pretty long tube right? Is this a really tough fix? Is it really expensive?

Not sure if anyone has had to replace those tubes before....one of y'all has done it I'm sure...any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much,

Dustin - '85 Vanagon, "Chuba"

P.S. Kim! I got the exhaust clamp.....you blew me away with the kind gesture and it came so quickly.....if there is ever anything I can do.....

D
