Not insane at all! Saw Ford Van conversion with pop-up similar to our Westy supported by lifters similar to rear hatch lifters. Also truck cargo bed covers supported same way. Many other applications. How about remote control doors they offer on minivans now days. It's hell of a lot easier to open door then lift popup roof. Of course hydraulic rams would be overkill. Leon
