I'm reminded of the previous article by Pensioner....

Be patient. When filling up the tank in a Syncro, I can almost always put another gallon in after the first cut off. I filled mine last night. Put in 17.5 gallons. First cut off was at 16.7 (I was a little surprised as normally most pumps first cut off is a bit earlier.

When filling I have to use the slowest trickle to get it to top off completely (any faster and the feedback through the tank vent lines will tend to cause the auto cut off to kick in.)

Curiously I have a similar problem on my Lotus which has dual tanks connected by hoses. The slowness of the tanks to even out the fuel level, means that the cut off kicks in too early, before the tanks are completely full.
