Subject: heater control panel backlight replacement

i need to replace the bulb that lights up the heater control panel. i've searched the archives and found one method where you have to remove the instrument cluster and one where you pull off the heater knobs and pry back the faceplate. that sounds easier! anyone else try that method? how do you get the heater knobs off without damaging them?

i've replaced the bulb that illuminates the rear heater fan before. is it the same type of bulb? man, those are fussy.
