If the hose is starting to collapse from your oil breather then you should replace it with either oil resistant hose or with heater hose (heater hose will last about 2-3 years, oil resistant is better but harder to find). There are, I think is was, valves or something in the oil breather that helps it to maintain lower air pollution, etc. to be in tune with EPA regulations, but I can't remember the details. Check the archives because I just read some info. on what is inside of the oil breather from the mailing list. Lost power could be the result of a variety of problems, you need to do some diagnostics. Could be vanagon syndrome, could be fuel injection problems, could be oxygen sensor problems, etc. I'm having some similar problems right now, and I'm about to clean out my fuel injectors to see if that remedies the problem - trial and error.
