I think oil is basically oil (FLAME ON). The hype over synthetic/dino etc. is overblown (IMHO).

What's more important is to keep the oil changed regularly, keep the proper quantity in, and keep everything else in the vehicle's drive train in proper shape (don't drive around with the timing retarded, the O2 sensor disconnected, green coolant in the radiator, passenger-car tires, etc.)

As for Quaker State, I'm pretty positive they have dropped their use of Pennsylvania stock for motor oil, or done something to get the paraffin out, or added some sweet detergents. It used to be if you torn down a motor where the owner used Quaker State (which used to be one of the top three or four oil choices for bug owners in the 70's and '80s) the innards would be caked with black sludge. No longer.

Uh-oh! So what's the best brand of oil to use (assuming you don't want to move to synthetic)?
