Kinda depends on the mileage, and condition, of your engine. If you haven't hit six figures yet, 20-50 should be fine. Over 100K, or if you have a flickering oil light after extended running, I'd use straight 40w or 50w this time of year. On a 2.1L with 200K, I used 50w in the summer with no problems (typically Valvoline racing oil). Just make sure you change it before hitting the mountains and the cool weather, or cranking will be interesting.

For my air cooled vans, I ran 30w in the winter, 40w in spring/fall, and 60w in June/July/August. Never had a problem.
