Dustin; Turn both heaters on full blast. Do you get any heat? If so leave these running, they should keep the engine from over heating, they are also before the thermostat. If you get heat you know the water pump is not shot. I am confused as to your "steam" comment. The bleeder valve on our 85 does NOT vent outside the system. Opening the valve provides a passage from the two big hoses to the small hose. This leads the air to the reservoir where it collects and is forced out the pressure cap. At least that is the way I understand it.
