Russel I bought one of those connectors that fasten to the +ve post. I put this connector on the +ve of my starter battery. I put the starter cable on this connector. I also connected a heavy cable to this connector and ran the cable to the box behind/below the driver's seat. This cable connected to a 40 amp fuse. To the other fuse post, I connected a heavy cable to my relay. The rest you know about. I don't remember the gauge of the cable but I chose one that could easily carry 40 amps without losses.
