Ken,

Just a comment on unplugging the TEMPII sensor, this does increase the idle, I cant remember how high the rpm climbed but the engine sure does not like this sensor being disconnected. I dont think Bently really comes out and says the rpm increases, but only that you you set the timing at 2000 to 2500. I think the rpm climbed to about 1600 + or - 200rpm and it seemed that the longer it ran with this sensor disconnected the more erratic it ran and then stalled. It was kind of wild trying to set the timing.

Just as a side thought, I am wondering how much this corroded accelerator cable on the van is throwing things off. Its obvious that when I press down on the accelerator pedal at some point it sticks but on the other hand when it releases itself I wonder if it totally comes back to a resting position--it looks like it does but his is a heck of a way to operate--I believe that cable has to be fully functional otherwise it could effect the throttle enrichment switch, and lead to some of the issues I'm having. Drove the van today and only had some hesitation once or twice when the engine was cold and I would accelerate from a stop. Once things warmed up all was fine. Another crazy thing that happened during all this is my temp gauge on the dash stopped working. It was working only intermittently on Sunday and as of Monday afternoon it totally went south---I suspect the sending unit is dead.

Next step is to replace the accelerator cable and go from there. Its running better.
