I'm not quite clear what you mean by "grabs the gear". Do you mean that
the engine is running faster than expected for a few seconds after you
let the clutch out? This would mean that the clutch is slipping or
perhaps not engaging because of some hydraulic issue.
If there are lots of horrible noises during the time before it grabs
the gear, you have significant trouble in the trans.
