Maybe it is just a difference in Preventive maintenance philosophy, but
don't take Jack-diddly with me on trips, and I've been across North
America in VW/Porsches 12 times, 5 of which went deep into Mexico.
Usually I pack a couple screw-drivers, a carpet knife, an adjustable
wrench and a pair of Vice-grips. I needed the carpet knife and the screw
drivers once.
If the vehicle isn't ready to go, I don't take it. If it is ready to go,
then some little 10-15k trip isn't going to break it. Plus, with the
contacts to list vendors, you can have any of the parts you need shipped
to nearly anywhere in 24 hours.
Road trips are supposed to be "vacation"... root word, VACATE, to leave,
as in "all your cares behind". Seems like you've got your van in pretty
good shape; fix whatever you think might break, and leave all that crap
at home.

Subject: Spare Parts List - Input
Folks,
Putting the Spare Parts list together for a very extended Expedition
throughout North America.

Stats:
- Fresh Engine Rebuild
- Fresh Trans Rebuild
- New VC
- Rebalanced Drive Shaft
- New Universal Joints
- Fresh AC Rebuild
- New Coolant Hoses and Pipes
- Radiator Flush and Clean
- New Alternator, ECU, Plug Wires, Oil/Water/Fuel Pumps
- New CV's
- New Exhaust System
Current Parts List
- Alternator
- Fuel Pump
- Water Pump
- ECU
- O2 Sensor
- Wires & Spark Plugs
- Oil Filters
- Fuel Filter
- U Joints
- Wheel Bearings
- All Belts
- Fuses
Current plan is to replace existing parts that seem to be fine with new
and
use the originals for spares.
What am I missing that would be hard to get in back water USA (including
Alaska), Canada or Mexico?
Or do I have things I don't need?
As Always ...... input appreciated.
Happy Trails,
Larry Chase
