Jonathan,

If you're not adversed to visiting your local you-pull-it, I would suggest
you go in there and find a few VW/Audis with relatively better rubber boots
and just start whacking away.  Everytime I part out a car I pull out as much
of the wiring harness as is reasonably possible along with loads of other
goodies like screws, bolts, fuses, light bulbs, relays, etc.  An old harness
is a wonderful source for a variety of connectors and large pieces of
properly colored wires not to mention rubber boots.  Find the boot you need,
take it off the donor connector, disassemble your old connector (mark those
wires or make appropriate notes), run the wires through the new/old boot
(clean it up and treat it with silicone protectant first), then reassemble
the connector.  YEAH! New boot!

Subject: electrical boots

After 18 years, every time I disconnect an electrical part (fuel
injectors, Temp2 sensor, etc...) the nice rubber boot that protected the
connector from the weather disintegrates in my hand. Last week I changed
out the Temp 2 and the boot fell apart. This morning we had a "Hollywood
rain storm and my Westy was running really funny. Coincidence? I think
not. So what do I do to replace these boots and seal up my connections
again.
