I have to say that I am a happy Boston Engine customer as well. I have a rebuilt 2.1l in my Carat Vanagon. Has about 20k miles on it with no problems. I have installed several of his motors and have not had any major issues with them (small oil leaks were the only real problem, but I have seen many VW factory rebuilds with oil leaks too). It is a good feeling to be able to jump in your van for a 14 hour drive and not wonder what is going to blow this time.

At the moment Bob and I are working on a Top Secret project to get even just a little more hp out of the 2.1l engine. Hopefully I will have more to report after this weekend.

Remember the recent guy who is burning oil big time? Hint: not a Boston Bob Engine. I have a stock 1.9l Boston Bob engine and can not complain. It just got me through a 1200 mile tour of the Adirondacks and didn't miss a beat. Used no coolant and only a few ounces of oil. Ran into another happy Boston Bob customer at one of the campgrounds. Don't write him off until you have talked to him personally. I don't know anything about his high performance variants, but he seems pretty interested in pursuing more hp from the 2.1l wbx.

Neither. With apologies to Boston Bob, he is on the wrong coast. AVP is every bit as good a rebuilder, and in California, so much less shipping time and cost.

Check http://www.avp-worldwide.com/index.html

I put an AVP rebuild in my van several years ago, and have had no problems at all. Their customer service is topnotch.
