Flushed it all last year, still does it, no clue. Using DOT 4. What gets me is that it pumps right up and is firm again, no real danger if you're alert, just a heart stopping moment. JT

My guess is crud in the master cylinder. How black is the fluid?? Flush and bleed the system yearly, and don't forget the clutch.
